The process briefly explained

In a few minutes you will see how the instruction works.

Why do educators need a health certificate?

According to Section 43 of the Infection Protection Act (IfSG), all persons working in community facilities are required to complete an infection protection training course. This is mandatory for daycare centers, schools, and day care facilities.

This particularly applies to educators and caregivers , as they have direct contact with children. The health certificate serves to protect children and prevent infection in community facilities.

Our online course offers decisive advantages: immediate certificate, validity throughout Germany and an instruction overseen by a physician commissioned by public health offices.

All questions clarified

I am an educator and never work in the kitchen - do I still need the Belehrung?
Usually yes, but not because of your job title. The duty under §§ 42, 43 IfSG attaches to handling open food, and that happens in the group room all the time: preparing breakfast, cutting fruit, handing out lunch. If you really do none of that, your provider decides whether it requires the proof - ask there or at the public health office (Gesundheitsamt).
Does the Belehrung also apply to childminders working in their own home?
As a rule yes. In Kindertagespflege (home-based childminding) you cook yourself, make sandwiches and serve the food - so you handle open food professionally, even if you only look after five children in your own flat. Many youth welfare offices (Jugendämter) already ask for the certificate during the process for the childminding permit. Your own Jugendamt will tell you how it handles this.
Do interns, FSJ volunteers and temporary staff in the daycare center also need a Belehrung?
Yes, if they help out in group service and prepare or hand out food while doing so. Whether it is paid, a recognition year or an FSJ (voluntary social year) makes no difference - what counts is the work, not the contract. Many providers require the certificate from everyone on day one anyway. Ask the HR office early so your placement does not hang on a missing PDF.
What applies to the kitchen and food service in the daycare center?
For kitchen and domestic staff, § 43 IfSG is the classic case: anyone who prepares lunch, plates up portions, makes sandwiches or prepares bottles is handling open food. That also applies to the person who only divides up the delivered catering and brings it to the groups. The certificate has to be in place before the first day of work.
Why do we always see §§ 42 and 43 IfSG - what does § 42 cover on top?
§ 43 governs the Belehrung itself, § 42 the bans on certain activities and employment. It sets out the illnesses that temporarily stop you from working, for example infectious diarrhoea, typhoid, cholera or hepatitis A. In the Belehrung you learn which symptoms to report to your employer immediately and when to stay at home.
The provider wants to see the certificate when I sign the contract - when is the best time to do it?
Shortly before you start, but not too early. No more than three months may pass between the Belehrung and the start of your work, otherwise it no longer counts for that start and you have to repeat it. Because daycare contracts are often signed long before the new daycare year, go by your start date. With us the whole thing takes around 15 minutes, so you can time it deliberately.
Is the erweitertes Führungszeugnis the same as the Gesundheitszeugnis?
No, those are two different documents from two different bodies. You apply for the extended criminal record certificate (erweitertes Führungszeugnis) under § 30a BZRG through your local registration office; it comes from the Bundesamt für Justiz and shows whether there are relevant entries. The Belehrung under §§ 42, 43 IfSG is about infection protection and you get it here online. Providers usually require both, and one cannot replace the other.
I am moving from the daycare center to after-school care - does my certificate still apply?
Yes. The Erstbelehrung (initial instruction) is tied to you as a person, not to a daycare center, a school or a provider. When you move to after-school care, to another group or into childminding, you simply show the same PDF again. The only new thing is that your new provider adds you to its documentation: the Folgebelehrung every two years is its job under § 43 Abs. 4 IfSG, not yours.

Health certificate in childcare - what you need to know

Anyone working in a community facility needs an instruction under §§ 42, 43 IfSG before their first day of work. This includes daycare centers, schools, after-school care, and childminding. The requirement applies to educators, teachers, and childminders as well as to staff in the kitchen and food service. Many providers also require the proof from interns and temporary helpers - if in doubt, ask your provider or the responsible health office.

Depending on the facility and region, you will come across different names for the same proof: hygiene instruction for the daycare center, health certificate for educators, instruction for childminders, or simply instruction under §§ 42, 43 IfSG. They all mean the same initial instruction - and the same certificate you get here online.

The initial instruction is valid without a time limit. However, under § 43 para. 4 IfSG your employer must repeat the instruction at least every two years and document your participation. You can also complete this follow-up instruction online.
